When wrinkles, that mark a lifetime of wisdom, are deemed unfavorable and freckles, hyper-pigmentation, and vitiligo are concealed only to show an empty and undecorated canvas, we present a shell of who we are, an unauthentic and untruthful version of self, unwilling to share and present the true qualities that are the hallmarks of age. Qualities including individuality, self-confidence, self-respect, resiliency, and love. My Nana was a huge source of inspiration. She embraces her age which is represented not just on her face but through her wisdom and love. Her permanent laugh lines, her defined hands, and contorted fingers, her soft and still supple complexion has left me in awe of the beauty in aging. And so, this collection titled Second Skin celebrates the skin we are in. I created a collection that embraces organic knitwear. Knitwear that embraces the values of my Nana by flowing naturally and intrinsically but still retaining a strong design. Knitwear that moves with you, not against you. Knitwear that celebrates what makes us human, through tactical touch, and gentile stitch manipulation. Whether wrinkled, pigmented, scarred, or flecked from the sun, it is time we love our skin in all its forms.
